This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only. Apple greatly improved it around OS 9.0.4 or 9.1, so here's what i would try:Apple Footer. Also have installed USB, Firewire Card plus ATA CardThink that's an old version of System Profiler. OS 10.2.8: Using 2 120 GB Hard Drives partitioned 7.7GB and remainder. It might work even with an older revisionOr it might not work even if you have the supposed requirements. Also, as noted above, you'll need to install USB support. It also came with an old 2 port USB 1.1 card that is probably from the late 90s/early.Having said that, i've found that system requirements for hardware are often not correct. If you can't get ahold of Tomeviewer, post your email addr here if you want and i'll email it to you.I own a Beige Power Mac G3 tower with a 266 MHz PPC G3, Rev. Then run that newer version of System Profiler and it should give you more info. Then use Tomeviewer (i'm sure you can download that if you don't already have it) to extract 9.1's Apple System Profiler from "Installation Tome" (in the image somewhere). Download the OS 9.1 updater from Apple.Check on this to be sure, but a Zip - however slow - is easy to work with.I know, you didn't mean to make a project of this. Jeff's designations ring a bell.If you could find an OS 9.1 or 9.2 install CD and do an archive and install of the newer OS (with USB card installed so as to pick up the USB extensions), it would make your life simpler.A 250 Zip drive should just fit in the space left from removing the floppy (they never work right), or in the one next to it I think I'm correct in remembering that a Zip uses a FAT 32 format which can be read by both Mac and PC. Somewhere I have a spare Rev D motherboard and Rev C ROM chip. The graphics controller chip changes, too, and may be one of two (or perhaps several) varieties. To use a USB card, you will need to have installed the USB extensions - and the only way to install them is to re-install the Operating System with the USB card installed (in which case they are installed automatically), or to use Tome Viewer (application). The motherboard of choice is the Rev D motherboard which is stamped 820-0991-B.The motherboard and the $77D.45F2 ROM chip (Rev C) make your beige G3 a Rev D. Somewhere I have a couple of new and unused examples. I'd start by downloading the USB installer for 9.0.4:Install that, and if it doesn't support the card,Haven't looked at the beige G3 forum for a lo-o-ong time, but it brings back memories. The Orange Micro USB/firewire PCI card is the card of choice.
